CULTURAL DANCE GROUP

 

            

Based at the Sedia Riverside Hotel, the Sekgantshwane Cultural Dance Group has brought harmony and united people from different tribes working at the hotel. As well as entertaining visitors from all parts of the world with their traditional dancing which reflects the typical friendliness and delightful attitude to life embraced by the people that has captured the heart of so many guests. .

 

The members represented in the dance group include the Hambukushu, Basarwa, Bakwangadi, Baxereku, Basubiya and the Bayei tribes.

 

The Bayei tribe could be termed as the indigenous tribe of the Okavango Delta, having been resident in the Okavango region for hundreds of years.

 

A variety of dances are performed which celebrate the various aspects of life, the meaning of the dances are explained during the performance.

 

The rhythm of the dance comes from clapping and singing a polyphonic chant, which gives the energy to the dance.

 

Through these cultural dances, traditional values are preserved and cultural identity maintained in the ritual ethnic celebration of dance, which bind the communities.

 

The traditional dance could also be said also to display the uninhibited expression of the national spirit and reflect the good humor and joy of life of the people.
