CHOBE NATIONAL PARK
(two safaris)
THE SAVUTI AREA
SAFARI
4 DAYS / 3 NIGHTS
(LONGER or SHORTER as required)
The Savuti area, in the relatively dry centre of Chobe National Park, is renowned for being the home of spectacular herds of easily approachable bull elephants.
There is also has a tremendous variety of other game species, including the large cats, wild dogs, many antelope species and, during the rainy season, great herds of Zebra attracted to the new grass.
Spotted Hyenas are a major feature of this area and are more easily seen here than in other Southern African parks.
This is big game country on a vast African scale with open grassy plains, seasonal pans, acacia and broadleaved woodland.
Summers are hot and winters chilly at night and in the early morning.
We spend our time exploring the area during early morning and late afternoon game drives, with sufficient time to relax, read and unwind in this wilderness area.
The safari starts and ends at Sedia Riverside Hotel in Maun.
It takes about 4 hours to drive to the park’s entrance, and another hour to the Savuti campsite – but that can take longer if we spend a lot of time looking at game on the way, which can easily happen!
THE NORTHERN AREA
(VIA SAVUTI)
SAFARI
5 DAYS / 4 NIGHTS
(LONGER or SHORTER as required)
The Chobe National Park is best known for being the home of the world’s largest elephant herds and has a tremendous variety of other game species including the large cats, wild dogs, many antelope species, and seasonally, great herds of Zebra.
The Chobe River is home to hippos, crocodiles and others not forgetting the varied and abundant birdlife including the majestic fish Eagles.
The Savuti public campsite is in the drier centre of the park and the campsite in the far north is in Ihaha or in the town of Kasane at the edge of the park. The Chobe River forms the northern boundary of the park and a three hour boat trip along the river (an optional extra) provides superb game and bird viewing and wonderful floodplain scenery.
The floodplains along the far north of the park are the only place in Southern Africa where the Puku antelope can be found.
The safari starts and ends at the Sedia Riverside Hotel in Maun. It takes about 4 hours to drive to the park’s entrance, and another hour to the Savuti campsite – but that can take longer if we spend a lot of time looking at game on the way, which can easily happen!
From Savuti to Kasane is about 5 hours by vehicle.
